The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), established in 1988, is based in Austin, Texas. ACFE is an international professional association of anti-fraud and white collar crime experts. ACFE is the world premier provider of anti-fraud training, education and resources.
Certified Fraud Examiners are knowledgeable in four critical areas of fight against fraud. These are:
- Fraudulent Financial Transactions
- Criminology and Ethics
- Law Relating to Fraud, and
- Fraud Investigations.
Certified Fraud Examiners are governed by a strict professional code of ethics and standards. Certified Fraud Examiners have assisted in investigating about 2 million cases world wide, including the world famous fraud scandals like WorldCom among others.
ACFE has over 45,000 member’s world wide, 20,000 of the members are Certified Fraud Examiners. ACFE sponsors about one hundred and thirty (130) international local chapters worldwide. Certified Fraud Examiners come from various professions, including auditors, accountants, fraud investigators, loss prevention specialists, attorneys, educators, and criminologists. CFE's gather evidence, take statements, write reports, and assist in investigating fraud in its varied forms. CFE's are employed by most major corporations and government agencies, and others provide consulting and investigative services. |
